NEBDN Announces 2025 SRA Award Winners

Earlier this year, we opened our annual Special Recognition Awards (SRAs) for individuals and groups who have made a significant impact on Dental Nursing developments and Dental Nursing education/training.

We would like to take this opportunity to recognise three outstanding recipients of NEBDN’s Special Recognition Awards presented in 2025. These awards highlight contributions across key categories, and we continue to be inspired by the dedication and innovation shown within our community.

The three categories are:

  • Individual Contribution Nomination
  • Group Nomination
  • Learner of the Year

Following a shortlist, we are delighted to announce the winners of the SRAs are:

Award Winner – Individual Nomination – Jan Brimacombe

Jan Brimacombe has dedicated over 20 years to the education and development of Dental Nurses, working as a highly respected Dental Nurse Tutor at Cotswold Dental Training. Throughout her career, Jan has played a significant role within NEBDN, serving as an Examiner and previously as a Super Co-ordinator, where her meticulous organisation of exam centres ensured smooth and professional experiences for both Learners and Examiners. Since the pandemic, Jan has continued to support NEBDN as a committed Associate, often stepping in at short notice and embracing her role as an online exam reader with enthusiasm and care. A passionate advocate for the profession, Jan has adapted to the evolving landscape of Dental Nurse training, championing new methods of course delivery and mentoring new tutors with patience, warmth, and dedication. Jan remains an inspiring figure, consistently learning, teaching, and going above and beyond for Learners and colleagues alike.

Award Winner – Group Nomination – NLDC

The team at North London Dental Centre (NLDC), led by Course Coordinator Angelica, has made a significant and lasting contribution to the education and development of Dental Nurses. Delivering the NEBDN National Diploma with a consistent focus on quality, structure, and relevance, the team ensures Learners are fully supported throughout their journey. Angelica’s leadership has been instrumental in creating a collaborative environment where Tutors, Assessors, and support staff work seamlessly to provide tailored guidance to each Learner. The team’s ability to adapt to industry changes and maintain high educational standards has resulted in consistently strong outcomes for Learners, with many progressing into specialised roles within the Dental Nursing profession. Beyond the classroom, NLDC actively promotes the Dental Nursing profession through career events and outreach initiatives, inspiring the next generation of Dental Nurses and raising awareness of their critical role in healthcare. Their collective dedication exemplifies the impact a united team can have on both Learners and the future of Dental Nursing.

Award Winner – Learner of the Year – Harrison Basterfield (MyDentist)

Harrison Basterfield has demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism throughout his journey as a Student Dental Nurse at MyDentist, earning him the NEBDN Learner of the Year award. From the outset, Harrison showed remarkable resilience and a strong work ethic, overcoming early challenges with a positive attitude and a commitment to continual improvement. His technical skills developed rapidly as he mastered clinical tasks such as assisting during procedures, managing instruments, and adhering rigorously to infection control and health and safety standards. Beyond his competence, Harrison’s kind approach to patient care truly sets him apart; he consistently creates a calm and reassuring environment, helping patients feel comfortable during often stressful treatments. A natural team player, Harrison supports his colleagues with enthusiasm and fosters a positive workplace culture through clear communication and willingness to help.
