Fluoride Varnish Application

NEBDN’s qualification in Fluoride Varnish Application provides Dental Nurses with an educational experience in knowledge, critical understanding, intellectual skills, practical skills and personal attitude. This will enable them to provide effective fluoride varnish application within a community-based programme and/or on prescription from a Dentist or as part of a structured dental health programme.

NEBDN’s Certificate in Fluoride Varnish Application can be undertaken either in conjunction with the NEBDN Certificate in Oral Health Education, or, as a standalone qualification. Should a registered Dental Nurse wish to combine the two, please also refer to the NEBDN Certificate in Oral Health Education.

This qualification does not include access to purchase an NEBDN Post-Registration pin badge as there’s no exam.

Who is it for?

This qualification is suitable for GDC registered Dental Nurses assisting the Dentist in fluoride application. The qualification supports Dental Nurse development both professionally and on a personal level; developing self-confidence and self-belief. Through enhancing your skills, you will gain further respect from Dentists and Hygienists with whom you work as part of a team educating and improving the oral health of patients.

More Information

To achieve a certificate in Fluoride Varnish Application you are required to complete a work-based Record of Competence (RoC). There are two sections to the RoC:

  • Practical Competence Assessment Sheets (PCAS)
  • Supplementary outcomes

There is no examination required for this qualification.

In order to be awarded this qualification, you must:

  • Complete and satisfy the requirements of the RoC

Dental Nursing

Upon completion of the NEBDN Apprenticeship or Level 3 Diploma you will be qualified and registered with the General Dental Council as a Safe Practitioner.

Certificate in Fluoride Varnish Application 

A qualified Dental Nurse who is awarded the NEBDN certificate in Fluoride Varnish can choose to complete the NEBDN Oral Health Education qualification as the two work in combination within the dental practice.
